Ferrari 348 spider 1994

Bburago #3039 Ferrari 348 TB first came out in 1992 and is still being produced. It has been made in red, yellow and lately in blue. Converting the base model TB (Berlina or Berlinetta) into a spider version is not so hard, provided one has the right tools and good Ferrari litterature.

TIPS :
- If you are not using the 348 kit version as your starting point, you should strip your base model completely of all its parts before starting.
- To remove the Pininfarina and Ferrari decals, use a good decal remover solution but be careful, some solutions can ruin your decals. I prefer to use a weak paint thinner to soften the paint around them and then remove them together with the layer of paint beneath them with a good razer. The disadvantage with this method is that one has to glue them back on when the model is repainted which gives them a risen appearance... still on the other hand that's exactly how they look like on the real car!
- When cutting the roof off, use a high speed cutting tool, you might be surprised at the hardness and thickness of the metal in some areas.
- Use only metal filler.
- Use a very high grade water proof sand paper (600 or more) for the final finish before repainting.
- Finding good litterature and pictures are essential in order to form and make your model accurate.
- Making the hood or top can be tricky. I used a textile that looks a lot like umbrella material but much less shiny, with cotton filling.

PAINTING TIPS :
- Most 348's after 1993-94 had their black bottom spoilers painted in the same color as the body.
- Most Spiders also had the black panel on the engine hood just behind the top painted in silver.
- Any decal transfer sheet can be used to make the Spider logo on the back. One can even use dry transfer letters if decals are hard to find. Just remember Italian cars have Spider written
with an i, not y.
