The Ferrari 250 GTO #3011 is probably the most famous of all the 1/18 Diamonds
range produced by Bburago. It has also been the most popular choice
for conversions by many. Many model makers who specialize in elaborations
of 1/18 die-casts from other makers have chosen #3011 as their base at one point or an other.
The original standard model (stock model) comes in "Ferrari Red" and is labelled a 1962 on its base,
and it does have two vertical slots on each side found on the early GTOs.
The detail level found on these great models is relatively high. It is, however,
not a perfect replicate of any of the real 39 GTOs built. A few strange ommisions also exist
like the lack of windscreen wipers, indicator lights etc.
Bburago first issued 3011
in 1984, they later marketed it with black racing numbers 86 on white roundels
and a red, white and green stripe on the roof. These were no decals but paper stickers.
A kit version was also produced (#7011) which included decals to create what they called the
Nürburgring edition. Cartograf of Italy later offered a decal sheet to transform a
standard (stock) 3011 into the # 19 entry driven by Noblet and Guichet at Le Mans in 1962.
Between 1995 and 1996 Bburago also marketed the latter in a ready pre-assembled
version. The model presented above is one of them. It is, however, a repaint and
some features on it do not look the same as the original.
Here are some versions of 3011 by Bburago and others.
