Bburago Rolls Royce Camargue

Excluding handbuilts and other expensive 1/18 replicas, no other big scale (1/18) model has stirred so much attention among big scale model collectors as Bburago # 3001. The attention these relatively old models have made is not only due to the fact that they are very desirable to own or obtain but is also centered around the authenticity of their colors along with the dates of issues. This comes as no surprise since certain Bburago models have always caused arguments over the originality of their colors and more so is true of the older ones, and even more of Bburago #3001. The countless repaints of these rare models have not helped either. The chances of buying a repainted newer series of this particular model presented as an older series color are great, since many unfortunately have been repainted. To find out more on how to avoid buying such a model look in the COUNTERFEIT!! page.

Probably the most desirable Bburago model today is the Rolls Royce Camargue series 1977-1979 in gold metallic. These models, if in mint condition and boxed, can fetch over 400$!! The one presented here is a true rarity, it is in fact not Bburago Diamonds #3001 but #3003 mounted on a wooden base with a pen holder which Bburago marketed and called "Desk Pack". They were sold in 1977 and 1978 just when Bburago Diamonds #3002 (MB SSKL) came out and a version of it was also sold as a "Desk Pack". The latter, however, was mounted on a plastic desk tidy-all which came with a Bburago agenda. (See Special Bburago Mercedes SSKL.) Both these models can be considered as the "ancestors" of Bburago's Executive range which exists today.
